Khan was born in New Delhi, India on 2 November 1965 to Muslim parents Meer Taj Mohammed Khan and Lateef Fatima and raised in Rajendra Nagar neighbourhood. He received the Pyramide con Marni award by UNESCO in 2011. ![]() His is also an active philanthropist and donates to various charities. An avid businessman, Khan is the co-chairman of Red Chillies Entertainment, a motion picture production company and the co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders, a cricket team in the Indian Premier League. He is also a recipient of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2007 and the Légion d’honneur, in 2014, both awarded by the Government of France. ![]() Khan was felicitated with the Padma Shri Award by the Government of India in 2005.
